Yamaha PSR-E303 Midi Connection Difficulty SOLVED

I had the Yamaha PSR-E303 and M-Audio Uno interface and was recieving inaccurate midi data using both Acid and Pro Tools. (No note offs were sent, and some funny controller data showed up). I tried transport one of the prerecorded interior songs from the jual keyboard yamaha, and the processor recieved that data more acurately (some note off’s were sent), but I also recieved erroneous notes and again some kind of controller varies that I couldn’t isolate. Also, when in “PC Mode OFF” and “PC Mode 2″, the MIDI IN light on the UNO stayed solid on. In “PC Mode 1″, the MIDI IN light blinked rapidly. (I think the blinking has something to do with the external clock.. all I recognized was it was broken). In all of the 3 modes, I had no victory recording. I went through all of the “function” settings on the keyboard, and none of them made the MIDI IN light go off or dim. I expected the light to go off because when singing back midi out of the processor, the MIDI OUT light would flash to indicate notes on and off. When no data was being sent out of the processor, the MIDI OUT light was off.
The keyboard played midi back from the computer correctly the first time I tried, so my dilemma was only with output from the keyboard.

Not obtaining any other MIDI gear, I was screwed.

So, I googled a bit and found a few nation saying that the Uno doesn’t play well with all Yamaha boards, and in particular one saying that the Yamaha brand interface fixed their problem. (Similar indications occur with a few different boards in the series, not just the E303). Then I came upon this forum, and I decided I’d try replacing the interface. When I returned my Uno to the music store, I asked if they had the Yamaha interface (UX-17?), and the guy said that they didn’t, and he specifically remembered having to extraordinary order the keyboard yamaha brand boundary for themself a few months earlier. This gave me hope that the Yamaha board was just creature picky, not broken.

I cruised to a different store, and ended up with an EMAGIC MT4. Established the drivers it came with, and everything works perfectly. I can both send and recieve MIDI (and the lights behave as normal too).

I wasn’t too enthusiastic about the EMAGIC MT4 at what time I purchased it, I used to be in reality looking to get the Yamaha. But it was only $10 more than the Uno, and has two in 4 out. Most importantly though, it workings wholly.

So, even if you have access to any other MIDI gear, I suggest you test your keyboard before abandoning it. The Uno’s encompass a good reputation with everyone I know, and they are probably good interfaces. I reflect they just can’t work with some keyboards. The other threads citing similar inappropriateness issues make me certain that my Uno was not defective, just plain irreconcilable.
