Every one knows the economy is bad. Unemployment rates are up and pay checks are down. Not too many know the right steps to finding a job in this poor economy. A good amount of unemployed people are using their credit cards to pay off another charge card and survive until they find something and it seems like there is not too much light at the end of the job hunting tunnell. Well fortunately there are plenty of jobs out there you just have to know where to look and how to find them. So here is a easy step by step guide to finding a good job in a hurt economy:
Step 1. Know what you are good at: Many people have a good amount of experience in many different fields. The problem is that not too many people will sit down and go through their work history, they are just settling for what they can find don’t do this. Sit down and think of all of the work experience you have and what fields the work experience is in. This will help you out a-lot in finding a good position.
Step 2. Create a resume: A lot of people think that resumes are over rated will guess what, THEY ARE NOT! The difference between a good and a great resume can mean the difference of who gets the position. Your resume should include many things such as your name and contact information, a catchy headline, all of your special skills, at least 2 years of working history, education, your age, and this is optional but it can do a great thing for you YOUR PICTURE. As a manager when I was sifting through resumes it was not very common that I sat and read every word on every resume, however the ones with the pictures caught my attention very quickly and put a face to the name and experience on the paper. To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t think I have ever hired any one from a resume with not picture on it.
Step 3. Start looking for jobs that complement your skills: There are a lot of places that you can start looking. Craigslist and snagajob are just a few. Also, look in your local news paper. Don’t take numbers for medical assistant if you have experience in construction. Make sure what you are looking for suits your work history. This will make your odds better when you start submitting your resume.
Step 4. Start submitting your resume: With the information that you gained from step 3 start to submit your resume to the companies. If you are e-mailing a resume, never send a word document or any format other than pdf. If you created your resume using word, search free pdf converter on google and convert the document. This will make it universal so any one can read it no matter what programs they have on their computer!
