Kindle DX Digital Book Reader

If you’re looking for a Christmas gift for anyone who enjoys reading or loves geeky gizmos then you really don’t need to look any further than The Kindle DX. And you have really hit the jackpot if they are a fan of both tech gadgets and reading.

The DX is the best version of the Kindle available. For anyone who needs to have a larger display (particularly good for reading digital newspapers) the DX is certainly the way to go.

While the Kindle 3G has a 6″ display, the Kindle DX has a 9.7″ display. Both of these reading devices have unlimited global wireless support without any additional cost.

All Kindle devices have completely free access to nearly two million books from before 1923 that are now out of copyright. Obviously this includes many legendary books such as Alice in Wonderland.

All of these devices can be used to get issues of magazines and newspapers instantaneously (with a subscription, of course.) This saves time, money (digital subscriptions are cheaper), and paper (good for the environment.)

The text to speech feature is also available in every current version of the Kindle reader. This means that every book you buy with it is really an audio book as well!

And have I even mentioned that it’s far less expensive to purchase digital books than it is the old fashioned versions? E-books on Amazon are usually only $10! And no one has to wait for the book to be sent in the mail, instead digital books can be downloaded instantaneously and read right then and there.

Probably the biggest thing holding people back from purchasing a digital book reader is the fear that looking at a screen when reading won’t be as eye friendly as reading from good old fashioned paper. But the Kindle’s screen is not like a computer screen, it’s far easier on the eyes. It uses “E Ink Pearl” technology that must be seen with your own eyes to be believed.

Here, There, And Everywhere: My Life Recording The Beatles

Geoff Emerick’s Here, There, and Everywhere is ikely my most favorite Beatles connected book. Why? Because it offers such a fascinating perspective on the recording of The Beatles legendary LPs.

I like that the book is focused on what was happening in the studio instead of what the members of the band were doing personally. Comparatively other Beatles books are too centered on the biography of The Beatles and not enough on the music. It’s because of their songs that anyone is concerned about their personal stories.

The book is not entirely about The Beatles, it’s really a Geoff Emerick memoir (with a clear focus on his time recording The Beatles) however if you think that that may make it less interesting, I really don’t think that it does. I actually think it helps make his interactions with The Beatles appear more “real.”

The book’s “realness” is one of my favorite things about it. I have read a heap of books on the band but most of them seem kind of clinical in comparison. Like a bunch of facts thrown together. With Here, There, and Everywhere I really felt like I was there at the studio in the 1960s. Sort of a fly on the wall, taking it all in.

This book offers a great look into The Beatles as musicians there’s actually a series of books called The Beatles as Musicians which goes into that more indepth.) We get a glimpse at McCartney working tirelessly to get his bass guitar parts on Sgt. Pepper just right and we see George improve his guitar playing talents through the decade.

Emerick was a very important part of the band’s sound during their most creative period in the mid ’60s. Amazingly on his 1st full day as lead engineer he came up with ideas that helped make the last track on Revolver, “Tomorrow Never Knows,” sound so revolutionary.

If you are interested in buying this book you aren’t stuck with buying it on old fashioned paper, you’ll also buy it for your Kindle. If you do not have a Kindle yet then I recommend buying the Kindle DX Digital Reader because of it’s larger size, it makes it easier to read. If you live outside of the United States, you’ll need to order a Global Wireless Kindle.

Of course, as much as I like reading about the recording of The Beatles music, I enjoy listening to their music even more than that. And I think it is a fantastic idea to have the new remastered versions of The Beatles back catalog around to hear to while you are reading this great book. In particular I recommend buying The Beatles Remastered Mono Box Set because Emerick mentions on several occasions in the book how he thinks that the mono mixes are the superior versions of those albums that have a mono mix (specifically in relation to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.)

Kindle Review

KindleReview Page

My boyfriend James showed me this new device for holding books on it. Its called Kindle. What I would describe it as is a Paper-Like screen. Apparently it can hold up to 1 500 books on it. I don’t really read that much but that is a cool feature in itself.

The thing that got me onto books was first the Twilight movie, from then I had to read the books in the series. After finishing the books I started craving reading and soon found the Terry Goodkind books.

Now, the dilemma came in when I was just about to leave for an island holiday and had just finished the book I was reading and needed the next book in the sequence to take with me to read on the beach. I soon discovered it was not in stock in all the books stores and would take weeks to get it from the publishers.

This wouldn’t be a huge tragedy with the new Kindle as one can obtain books wirelessly in less than 60 seconds without having to first download them onto your computer and then transfer them onto the Kindle. The 3G wireless on Kindle lets you download books right to your Kindle. Its anytime access to the internet without contracts and monthly fees.

When I took my other book to the slim and can still fit all the information on it without it having to be to bulky. The book I’m reading at the moment is over 600 pages long and takes up a lot of space when traveling. This Kindle is only just over 1/3 of an inch, which is as slimthin as most magazines. Which makes it no hassle to take with across state or overseas.

When my sister came out from England to visit for her birthday my Aunt gave her a beautiful book as a gift but unfortunately she couldn’t take it back with her because it weighed too much. The Kindle is lightweight; weighing in at 10.2 ounces, making it lighter than a typical paperback. Very impressive. Oh and it has global coverage so my sister can use it at home or abroad in over 100 countries.

The thing that I love about the Kindle is that the battery life can last up to 1 week on a single charge provided the wireless is not on. Kindle has access to a Dictionery, and encyclopedia, (Wikipedia.org.) which allows you to look up words you do not comprehend

This is the perfect gift for anyone who travels a lot for either enjoyment or for business. The built-In PDF Reader can allow any business person the opportunity to view PDF documents. The PDF support feature allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go.

The function I am overjoyed about is the Read-to-Me option this has the ability to read out the words on the page to you whether it’s a newspaper, book or a blog.

Therefore when choosing a Christmas gift of value I would suggest Kindle for its size, its features and its convenience. Check out Kindle
