Baby Sign Language Means You And Your Baby Can Communicate

Do you feel frustrated when your baby cries? Do you wish she could tell you what’s wrong? Be assured that most parents feel the way you do. It’s difficult at times to know what your baby really wants. It’s not only frustrating for you, but it’s frustrating for your baby as well when she can’t communicate what she wants or needs.

There is indeed an answer to this dilemma and it’s called baby sign language. Sign language is an exciting and new way to communicate with your baby. Sign language allows babies to tell you if they’re hungry, thirsty or have a wet diaper. But you may be wondering – can your baby really communicate this way?

Recent studies have shown that baby sign language is actually quite effective. It was created by Joseph Garcia through observing how a baby communicated with his deaf parents. This baby, who was not even a year old, was able to pick up his parent’s sign language and “talk” to them. After observing how this worked, Garcia began to promote baby sign language for parents who had normal hearing.

Believe it or not, most babies actually can pick up the baby sign language rather quickly. As a matter of fact they find it easier to sign than to talk. Probably because they have better control over their hands at an earlier age than they do the muscles in their mouth and tongue. Babies can be taught sign language from around the age of 6 months or even younger. Parents have been amazed at how quickly their babies picked up on the signs.

As you can imagine, sign language removes a lot of a baby’s frustration!. Instead of having to scream hoping that their parents will figure out the problem, they can simply make a few signs with their fingers to tell their parents what they need, a huge improvement.

Some parents have expressed concern that teaching their baby to sign is going to make them develop language skills at a slower rate. This has been completely disproved by research. In fact, studies show that babies that were taught baby sign language actually start speaking more quickly. Some signing babies are even showing a higher IQ in childhood.

Baby sign language can be easily taught to your child. There are many classes springing up which will help you teach your baby to sign, or you can learn to do this yourself. There are many resources available to parents who want to teach themselves and their baby at home. All you need are some basic tools – a sign language chart, some flash cards with pictures and an instruction manual.

So if you’re fed up with wondering what your baby wants each time she cries, baby sign language may be the way to get you talking!.
